Criminal paedophilia

Paedophilia is criminal activity involving sexual offences against children by adults, including the production and distribution of child pornography.

Although our jurisdiction relates to all child sex offending, we focus on internet-based offending, repeat offenders and paedophile networks. This ensures that our work complements, rather than duplicates, that of the police.

How we fight paedophilia

To combat paedophilia, we:

  • form taskforces with police and other law enforcement agencies to target serial sex offenders who pursue multiple victims
  • keep abreast of the increasingly sophisticated information technology paedophiles use to prey on children
  • research and produce intelligence projects aimed at countering the threat to children
  • educate community groups, schools and other bodies connected with the education of children on internet safety and criminal paedophilia. Read more about protecting your kids.
