- Since it began in 1987, our witness protection program has been 100 per cent successful in enabling 1659 people (including some high-profile witnesses) to give vital evidence in safety. We provide this level of protection almost immediately. For example, in 2010–11, we assessed every application for protection within 48 hours of receiving it, irrespective of where the person was located.
