Right to information
What is the Right to Information?
The Right to information is the Queensland Government’s approach to giving the community greater access to information. This approach is provided for in the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act). More information about the government's approach and details about the new legislation is available on the Queensland Government website.

The Queensland Government made a commitment to provide access to information held by the government, unless on balance it is contrary to the public interest to provide that information.

The Right to Information aims to make more information available, provide equal access to information across all sectors of the community, and provide appropriate protection for individual privacy.

The CMC’s publication scheme includes the proactive release of information that previously would only have been available on request.

Where do I find information?
If you are looking for information about the CMC, a good starting point is this Publication Scheme which sets out some of the information available and provides links to our website. Another source is the Disclosure Log. The Disclosure Log names the documents that have been provided in response to requests for information under the RTI Act after 1 July 2009. Once released, these documents are available to everyone.

Refer below for other ways in which you can obtain information from us.

Limitations on access
Please be aware that the RTI Act does not apply to, or otherwise limit access to many of the CMC’s operational and investigation documents. To obtain access to documents relating to a particular investigation, the documents must consist of information about the applicant and the investigation must be finalised. Parties not involved in the investigation cannot access investigation files. Other exemption provisions may also apply to the information.

Published information
This publication scheme describes and categorises information routinely available from the CMC. Accessible information is grouped into seven classes.

Costs
Ordinarily, there will be no charge to access documents included in the publication scheme. However, where the provision of documents would impose significant costs on the CMC, the CMC may charge for the reasonable costs of providing them.
