Facing the facts is a comprehensive and practical guide for dealing with suspected official misconduct in Queensland public sector agencies.
This new 2007 edition is the result of feedback from Queensland agencies and the CMC’s continual review process. These guidelines have also been reviewed by the Office of the Public Service Commissioner and Crown Law to ensure a consistent and comprehensive approach throughout the public sector in Queensland. These guidelines are designed to: - help CEOs and managers recognise when they need to refer a matter to the CMC
- define the term ‘official misconduct’
- outline the various options available to public sector agencies in dealing with their own suspected official misconduct
- detail the steps involved in conducting a formal investigation to meet the exacting standards of the CMC.
The guide also discusses how to manage the impact of an investigation in the workplace and how to use the lessons learned in an investigation to prevent future occurrences of the same problem. Module 12 in the series (first published June 2006) focuses specifically on local councils.
