Prevention activities are an important part of the CMC’s misconduct function. Misconduct prevention involves helping public sector agencies reduce their risk of corruption by improving their internal controls, accountability and integrity of operation. Misconduct Prevention aims to embed the notion that within the Queensland public sector and police service that maintaining high standards of integrity and conduct is core business The CMC performs this prevention function in a number of ways including: - Analyzing information gathered during and the results of investigations;
- Providing information to, consulting with and making recommendations to agencies;
- Reporting on ways to prevent misconduct;
- Increasing the capacity of agencies to prevent misconduct by providing advice and training

The CMC has produced a wealth of information on several prevention topics including conflicts of interest, fraud and gifts and benefits to name but a few.
