Witness protection defined

Witness protection means protecting someone whose life is in danger because they have helped a law enforcement body do its job.

Witness protection can involve relocating the person (and relatives or associates) and may include the creation of a new identity.

The Crime and Misconduct Act 2001 gives responsibility for witness protection in Queensland to the Crime and Misconduct Commission. The program is operated under the provisions of the Witness Protection Act 2000 (Qld).
